If your life is not exactly the way you want it to be, your beliefs may be partly responsible. It’s time to take a look at those limiting beliefs and stop the self-sabotage.
Beliefs can be powerful. They can limit what choices you make and limit what goals you set yourself. Having belief in your self really can be the driving force to success.
Everyone has limiting beliefs of some sort or other. These can range from self-doubt to low self-esteem or just something that you have an irrational fear of. Some of these may not be debilitating to your everyday life, but sometimes it is the little things that stop you from reaching your potential.
These limiting beliefs stop you from stretching yourself. They stop you from dreaming big. They prevent you from living an extraordinary life. All because you think you are not able to achieve it. You self-sabotage your success to maintain your beliefs.
I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way.
Once you discover what is holding you back, then there are techniques you can practice to overcome these self-sabotage tactics.
The power of belief
We base our entire outlook on life on our belief system. And we are in control of those beliefs.
Our beliefs are the things we choose to think are true, based on the information and experiences. But just because we believe something doesn’t make it true. Sometimes we believe in many things that aren’t based on fact.
When you start to question your beliefs, you start trying to understand what the real truth is. You can then start to change how you think about what you are capable of.
Once you stop self-sabotaging yourself, your reality will soon start to reflect those changes.
Success is the result of adopting a specific mindset, and you need to control your mindset.
Beliefs are both empowering and disempowering. In many instances, we have even created stories and reasoning in our mind to justify our beliefs. But at some point, you need to ask yourself why you think your belief is true.
If you have thoughts or beliefs holding you back, you are continually self-sabotaging your chance of success.
Your self-sabotage is holding you back
The fact is, we all carry within us beliefs that hold us back. We are all conditioned to think and act in certain ways and to believe certain things.
This is why so many extraordinary people like you remain powerless and can never achieve their goals.
Uncovering and overcoming our self-limiting beliefs is important if we want to make our lives remarkable.
Right now, you may believe that you are not worthy, not intelligent, not attractive, that you are not ‘something’ for you to succeed. Some of your beliefs may be correct, but that doesn’t mean you can’t change things.
I can guarantee that many of your beliefs are most likely untrue and hold you back in more ways than you can imagine.
You need to find a way to identify your limiting beliefs so you can then start to question their validity and work on changing them.
Make your life remarkable
You can overcome the beliefs that are preventing you from achieving great success and happiness. Don’t self-sabotage all your chances of achieving your goals.
Follow this process to identify your limiting beliefs and overcome these blocks to your success.
1. Uncover your limiting beliefs
Answer the following questions as quickly as possible, without over analysing your responses:
“I can’t become/achieve <my goal> because…..”
Answer without thinking too much to get the response from your subconscious mind rather than your logical mind. It’s your subconscious beliefs and attitudes that we want to reveal.
Repeat the same question at least 10 times and note down the answer each time. The more different responses you have, the more effective the exercise becomes.
The question can be changed up if you have multiple goals, or you can make the question generic to start with and ask, “I can’t achieve success because…..” and see where your responses take you.
2. Mark each of your responses
Look at the responses you made to the question and give each of the responses a mark between 1-10 to show how strongly you feel about the response. The higher the number, the stronger the emotion. The lower the number, the more you don’t believe the response.
Any responses marked between 7-10 are likely to be the ones holding you back the most. These are your limiting beliefs that have the most potential negative effects on your success.
3. Create your list of opposites
Take the responses with the highest scores and use your logical mind to discover reasons that will cancel out the response.
You can take your time to answer this as you don’t want to use your subconscious mind.
Try formatting your reasons in the following format:
“I CAN become/achieve <my goal> because….
Write out as many opposite reasons as you can, and again the more you can come up with, the better.
These responses will give you empowering reasons to justify why your limiting belief is untrue.
4. Create affirmations to stop self-sabotage
Select the single most empowering reason that counteracts each one of your limiting beliefs.
The final step is then to convert these empowering new beliefs into positive affirmations.
The affirmations will help reprogram your subconscious and stop you from being held back.
Find out how to create and use affirmations here.
The only way you can take a giant leap forward and achieve your goals is to do this exercise and start reprogramming your subconscious mind for success.
This single step has the power to completely transform your life in ways that you previously only dreamed of.
